Christmas and the turn of the year makes us all evaluate our lives and, whether you make New Year resolutions or not, there’s no doubt that it’s at this time of year that many people decide to get fitter, to take up new activities or to simply enjoy brand new experiences with friends and relatives. Put simply, change is good for the soul!
There’s no better place than Headlam Spa, for instance, for anyone who aims to build up their fitness in the New Year. With a superb range of facilities, treatments and fitness classes for your winter wellness, it’s the ideal base for your resolutions to come to fruition – and all in a really cosy and homely environment. Current classes put on at the spa include an ABC of exercise – that is - aerobics, boxercise and circuits! Complemented by pilates and yoga, of course. And if it’s your aim to build up your core strength, then there’s no better place than our fully equipped gym or our 15 metre swimming pool to do that.
Outside, located in Headlam’s four acres of walled gardens, our hard tennis court was relaid last year, and our new outdoor gym equipment is ideal for crisp, fine days this winter. And of course, experienced or aspiring golfers can enjoy time on Headlam’s 9-hole USGA accredited golf course, which is renowned for its challenging holes, covered driving range and popular resident PGA Golf Pro, Darren Pearce.
Further afield, with Headlam being located in the beautiful rolling countryside of lower Teesdale, the area also lends itself to giving you the chance to try something new this New Year. What about hiring an e-bike for the first time and cycling on our suggested routes around the area. They have a battery range of about 50 miles! Or learn to fish with our partners Fly Fishing Yorkshire, who offer tuition for beginners and can supply all the required equipment and permits.
Walking is also a big thing in the area, as you’d expect (we have a recommended walking trails leaflet ready and waiting for you), and two fantastic outdoor attractions which can be explored by guests on foot during their stay at Headlam Hall are High Force (England’s tallest waterfall) and Hamsterley Forest, a delightful 2,000 hectare forest which is perfect for walking, wildlife watching or cycling, with trails for leisurely riders or for high-octane downhill mountain bike riding.
Finally for now, if luxury and indulging is more your thing, then why not try something new in 2025 by splashing on a special birthday or anniversary gift for a relative or friend (or simply for yourself!) and hire one of the hotel’s three superb classic cars for the day, including our Aston Martin DB7! For this, you’ll have to wait until May (they’re available from 1st May to 30th September), but, like Christmas, half of the beauty of an experience like this is the looking forward to it!
